Infographics - How things work

For the course Production Technology we ask the students to pick an interesting tool, machine, part or technololgy to study, explore and explain in a infographic. We did this for the first time last semester and the results were so good that we decided to continue with this.

Here the best ones we had last semester, they will be also visible on the blog under How it works
So pick your topic, discuss it shortly with your mentor and get started. As a reminder: hand it in with the final report at the end of the semester.

cardboard pavillion

While our sunshade group is sweating under the hot dutch sun ...our cardboard group is busy with the building of a cardboard pavillion under the guidance of Jerzy Latka in Poland.

Action in the studio

Amazing, after just a couple of weeks the students already get crazy with their models, first tests and experiments. Today also the 2nd semesters Extreme course started and the whole Building Technology studio was crowded with enthusiastic students. For us its quite normal when every now and then a weird smell or sound appears ...it happens when innovations are born ...but have a look by yourself.

Dragster in the kitchen

Our Dr. Bucky Lab builds a small cabinet for a dragster modell, showing some woodworking, cutting glass and a method to cover MDF with a layer of sticky vinyl to get rid of a messy paint job.

Folding Flowers 2.0





Over one year ago Carlyn Simoen and Wouter Vlietstra completed the Bucky Lab course with their project the Folding Flowers. The project showed potential and after the final presentation multiple parties from the industry declared their interest. Dickson proved to be the best match and a partnership was made to take the design to the next level. The innovation-driven company was interested in implementing their (outdoor)shading fabric into the Folding Flowers design. After some testing the design was improved and adapted to Dickson’s more rigid fabrics. A new prototype was made and presented to the public at the R+T fair in Stuttgart. The responses from the industry were very positive and Dickson was satisfied with the innovation made by the “new generation”. The design is still quite far away from an industrial application, but who knows what the future will bring us!
