BUILDING DAY 4 FLYING HIGH

Dont miss an opportunity ...this morning a lifting platform arrived and we did some unusual group pictures that shows our building location and the mobile workshop from a different angle ...

The Walko workbenches changed their function every hour, beeing a saw center in the morning, an assembling station before lunch and a Domino tennon table with a second system at the end of the day..."Marcel, we should have more Walkos, they are so handy ..." Yes I know ! its on the list, damn getting four sets for the two weeks and already addicted, Many thanks to Bart Groot the inventor of the Walko System for his support.

The assembly of the flightcases was running in full speed and all of the teams increased their skills. Due to a good preparation the work was running fast and having a session tomorrow with hettich to assemble the new Arcitech drawer systems, we had to hurry a little bit to have at least a few boxes ready for the drawers to be inserted.

The Kapex was singing all day long and most of the profiles were ready to meet their final destination on one of the boxes. Linda Hildebrand our special guest for the building weeks totally fall in love with the festool Kapex mitre saw and was able to perform the most accurate cuts, so no question who will cut the rest ...Linda is a phd researcher in the chair design of construction and a member of the facade research group and almost loves tools as Dr. Bucky Lab Marcel Bilow himself.

The most enthusiastic ones stayed two hours longer to finish their tasks and at the end of a longday we already rolled out the first tools inside a totally complete box ( we were so pleased, we directly forgot to take a picture...)

We are looking for tomorrow when hettich arrives to help assemble the drawers ...if everything will work according to plan we will have a place for the tools by tomorow and can stop carry them around in a shopping car.

BUILDING DAY 3 POP CONCERT

What a day, Germany vs Netherland ....Dr. Bucky Lab himself wears orange today ....but more important we got all parts cutted and started with the assembly.

Ron our first man on the saw was quite exhausted after ripping more than 200 parts up to the last millimeter, but with the help of Kelly, Sisko and Maysam that played like a team it was like a cutting factory.

While the others waited in standby mode Linda and Dave figured out the last details of how to place the dominos and what would be the best way of cutting the aluminium profiles. At the end of the day we have to call Linda the queen of aluminium, when she gets in action on the Kapex, the saw sings a different melody.

Ewout, Loran, Erald, Ahmed Abbas, Javier,Jayadeep and Abbas started the pop concert after the assembly of the first lid of box 1, they had drilled for two days all the aluminium profiles and couldnt wait to get started. At the end, up to six machines were simultanious on the box in action.

We showed them how to place blind rivets first manually and they were quite frustrated that this has to be done more than 2000 times...when we showed them the pneumatic Pop rivet tools we got from Onkenhout, the dutch importeur for Pop Rivets they were totally reliefed and started smiling again, If technology and tools can make people happy we assume its a good invention !

Next to the good progress we made also our first coffee mug from the bucky lab fanshop arrived. A perfect
combination with the coffeemachine from Douwe Egberts and a lovely cappucino.

At the end of the day our planned public viewing in the tent was cancelled, the most decided to watch the game after a long shower...

BUCKY BABES

Juliette Truffert and Cedrique Steenkamer already surprized the boys yesterday by calling in the experts from festool that they are right against the two boys in their team of how to use the Domino ... today they took even the smallest tasks into a joyride and add a little bit of their own flavour.

Here the two bucky babes with their freshly made compressor trolleys...there was still time to build a set of table tennis rackets and convince the boys to compeet against them behind the tent for a tabletennis match...

BOX NO 5

Ron Valkenet already prepared some videos from our mobile bucky lab, this one will become the edutainment center and kitchen, including Hettichs new Arcitech drawer system as the worlds first, the system is launched till yesterday.

BUILDING DAY 2 PREPARATION

On day two, we reorganized the tent to create workstations for every different task, te biggest task was cutting all the plywood plates for the boxes, drill all the aluminium profiles and prepare all the jigs that will help us to build the boxes with ease. All students started in small groups and get used to another day at work.

Today it looked already professional, the students got all the tricks and skills to handle the wide range of machines. So the trainingfrom yesterday was a huge success! When we first saw the Walko workbench we knew that we have to use this system in the bucky lab, now working already two days with the system we have to say its a perfect combination with our festool machines.

The students already fall in love with the machines and how easy and precise it is to work with. Having the coffee machine ready and working is so comfortable to work in the tent so nobody is missing the 20 minute run to get coffe for the others.

Ahmed our phd student from the chair design of construction joined the students to give them a hand and get some practical experinence had his birthday today, so the cake at 3pm was a very welcome break.

The team also build a storage place for the aluminium profiles. We were very surprized how much you are able to set up a tent to become a professional workshop.

If everything works as smooth as today we will have the first box ready tomorrow, so lets cross fingers. From our side we have to say its so much fun to see the students grow with their tasks and their happiness, its worth every minute we spend the last 8 months to prepare this action.

WALKO WORKBENCH SYSTEM

Today on the second day of our building weeks we did all the preparation, the biggest tasks was the cutting of all the plywood plates. Perfectly equipped with the tools from festool and the Walko workbench system it was an easy and also comfortable task, we wondered how the students make the systen their own in such a short time.
